Honed Concrete is a type of mechanical refinement or resurface method used on natural stone & concrete floors. In conjunction with polishing concrete, honing diamonds can also be used as a preparation method for other decorative applications and finishes. Honed surfaces have been refined, but not polished, so the sheen levels are lower by nature, yet porous to receive decorative applications, such as stains, dyes, surface repairs, skim-coats, densifiers, sealers & more. A more aggressive approach to resurfacing a concrete floor is know as diamond grinding which precedes honing steps on a the CSP (Concrete Surface Profile) scale for concrete floor profiles.

Honing concrete overlays gives our clients new opportunities on both wood or old, unwanted concrete. As seen above, this self-leveling concrete overlay gave this new home the look they wanted after the original concrete slab didn't quite turn out like they wanted. Unhappy with the aggregate exposure and overall look, this honed concrete overlay with integral color gave them back control over the design and overall look of the new home build in North Dallas.
There are different types of concrete overlays available today. Some hand troweled and other pumped in like concrete.
50-100 grit | matte sheen
